KILOMBO Mixes..
As a thank you for being patient with the construction of our new site, here's a deep/rare all-vinyl Afro mix that we hope you'll enjoy. It actually dates from 2003, as part of the promotion for a series of Kilombo Afro nights at a Soho club back in the day - thought we'd lost it, but it's just turned up again. John did it without monitors, so the miix isn't perfect, but what the hell! It's interesting how time has caught up with some of this mix; the Kusum Beat cut from the Sweet Talks, for example, recently reissued on Soundways, as well as 'OhYeh Soweto' by Teaspoon & The Waves, and 'Highway Sporo Disco' by The Nzimande All Stars, the former track of which is featured on Kilombo's 'John Armstrong Presents South African Funk Experience' (Nascente), and both of which figure on our friends Sofrito's new Super Disco 12" - which was something of a joint effort between Kilombo and Sofrito, and includes a Kilombo re-edit of another super-rare Teaspoon track: see links below for both records. There are a couple of other things on the mix that we're expecting heads-ups on, too - tunes that none but the most hard-bitten Afro collector will have in their boxes. Please enjoy and let us know what you think!
